Introduction to Your DSLR

Photoshop Elements Workshops

Each two hour session will be hands on so bring your computer (Laptop) or work with me as we gather knowledge on this wonderful program. These sessions are offered now on Tuesday nights from 7-9pm in Jack’s classroom. Sign up for as many classes as you like. I am sure you will find at least a few of interest. We will NOT be offering a complete class as we have in the past. This workshop series will allow you to pick and choose without a major time commitment or financial expense. Each session is $40.00. I encourage you to call me personally with and question you may have. If you can’t make this schedule please let me know so we can stay in touch. Organizer, Printing and Sharing

August 15th 7-9pm

Getting started on cataloging process, we start with importing your entire photo collection. Now that we have all of your images in a convenient location we go through tagging, searching, grouping and backing up. You will be able to view your collection based on when the images were taken and search by tags applied to your images. Printing at Home or Outsourcing, Getting Images on Disc, and Sharing will also be covered.

Quick Fix (simplest) and Guided Edit

August 29th 7-9pm

This workshop will cover the simplest of the editing spaces “Quick Fixes” so simple you do not even need to resave the file. The guided edit is a powerful follow the steps process that will prepare you for the full editor. This class will offer you the needed skills to do basic photo fixes. You will be introduced to Navigating Tools (like hand, zoom, undo, panning). and general information on the jpeg file type.

Lighting controls and finding your way around the program quickly

September 12th 7-9pm

In this learning series we will explore beyond the basics of getting around the program. Lighting Adjustments (color, brightness, contrast, saturation & info palette) You will see how to zoom in to see exactly what the pixel level in the image looks like and why it is needed to see your fine details. Navigating Tools (like hand, zoom, undo, panning) these are things you should be using many times in working on your treasures. Cropping (multiple sizes, text basic dpi info) File Types (jpg, png, tif, & psd (Photoshop) the file to use when you want to keep layers in your files)

Copying and Pasting and Introduction to Layers

September 26th 7-9pm

Selection Tools (lasso, marquee,magic wand & saving and modifying selections) Before you can copy or selectively work in Elements you must select it. If you think of using scissors to cut out something this is called a hard edge. We will learn that sometimes that is ok and other times we DO NOT want it to look like we used scissors. Understanding Brushes (soft vs hard & opacity) will be the natural build on this concept. Text and Shape tool will be TOUCHed on.

Photo Projects

October 10th 7-9pm

Working with multiple images on a page, text, gradient, paint bucket, shape tool. After the instructive and hands on workshop you will be able to make photo cards, collages and have the skill to layout custom photobooks.

Retouching People & Red Eye Fix

October 24th 7-9pm

This workshop will focus on the common fixes that can be done to enhance portraits or candid people pictures. Elements has a simple red eye tool that will sometimes do a great job. I will show you the way that will always work. Whitening teeth, removing acne and pimples, softening skin and lessening lines on faces. Getting that sparkle in the eye that can make them look right through you.

Black & White w/Selective Color (layer masking) and Layer Blending Modes

November 7th 7-9pm

We will start with a color image and convert the image to a black and white with just select areas still in color. See how using blending modes for layers can add texture to your masterpieces. Top off the project with Creative Effects using Filters.

Removing Items and Replacing Heads

November 21st 7-9pm

Switching Heads in Group Images with and without Photomerge Group Shot. Removing Items From Scenes with and without Photomerge Scene Cleaner we will go through these automated processes but mainly focus on the manual way. Auto is great when it works but you really don’t want to be stuck when the auto button push won’t work. We will also look at adding background to an image.

Advanced Techniques

December 5th 7-9pm

Lightening and Color Correcting Select Areas (working with layers) Batch Processes or Actions. (watermark, rename, autofix, resize) Learn how processes can be done repeatedly with the use of actions. I will also explain what can only be done in the Big Brother version of Elements (Photoshop)
